San Marcos made a comeback in each set for a 25-21, 25-18, 25-23 sweep of Newbury Park Friday in the season’s first home match at the Thunderhut.
Senior captains Kyle Foley and Luke Walker led with 10 and nine kills, respectively, Foley on 14 attempts and Walker 16. Senior captain Hansen Streeter dished 38 assists.
“Newbury is always well coached, and they have a great deal of talented players,” San Marcos head coach Roger Kuntz said. “We were fortunate to come away with a win tonight and it was a very hard fought battle.”
The coach credited solid serving, effective decision-making and offense for the set comebacks.
“Our serve receive tonight was solid behind junior outside hitter Mason Rice, and at the opposite position senior captain Luke Walker led the attack and had some of the best blocks tonight.”
The Royals improve to 7-2 overall and will host Santa Barbara on Tuesday night in the Thunderhut for a key Channel League match.

Thomas Couvillion, Ganden Walker, Tyson Deveze and Drew Levinson each had six kills to power the Owls to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-22 sweep of Santa Ynez for their seventh straight win .
