The annual Summit for Danny Community Hike, presented by the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA), will be Saturday, Oct. 28 at Elings Park.
Hikers can select from an Intermediate Hike at 9:45 a.m. or an Easy Hike at 10:45 a.m. Canine pals are welcome to participate, and will be treated to dog biscuits and their own water station.
The registration fee includes a t-shirt and cap; and a barbecue luncheon provided by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Barbara.
Hike sponsors receive free enrollment for hikers (the number dependent upon sponsorship level). A perpetual trophy for the largest hiking team will be awarded during a luncheon awards event.
All proceeds go toward serving children, teens and their families at CADA’s three Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Centers in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Lompoc.
Summit for Danny is spearheaded by local business leader Bob Bryant and his wife Patty.
Bob, who lost his son Danny to substance abuse in 1995, was determined to turn his tragedy into hope for others, with the establishment of the Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Center, which opened in 2001 in Santa Barbara.
Since then, two more Daniel Bryant Centers have opened, in Santa Maria and Lompoc. Together, they have provided more than 9,000 teens and their family members with treatment and services for early substance abuse issues and related mental health issues.
“CADA was the first nonprofit in Santa Barbara County to provide substance abuse treatment for adolescents and today is the only agency countywide to provide organized youth services for young people with substance abuse and related mental health issues,” said Scott Whiteley, CADA’s executive director.
“Our annual local hike is an absolutely wonderful day of community camaraderie in a phenomenal setting,” he said. “And very important, the money we raise every year is vitally important to our ability to address adolescent substance abuse, strengthen local families, and create a healthier and more vibrant community for everyone.”

International Hike
The annual Summit for Danny International Hike will take place Jan. 8-14 in Chile, where Santa Barbara hikers will travel from Pucon to Puerto Varas.
The first international hike in 1991 was led by Bob and Patty Bryant. Over the years, these events have raised more than $3 million for the Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Centers.
Hikers personally cover all expenses associated with their trip, so all money raised goes directly to the work of the Daniel Bryant Centers. To donate, visit sfdinternational.org.
