Laguna Blanca High School alum Sam Narva is making his mark on the powerlifting scene.

Narva, who graduated from Laguna Blanca in 2025, set a new California state record in the solo deadlift in his division last weekend at the South Bay Strength Company in Long Beach.

The 19-year-old lifted 575 pounds at the Bummy’s Beat Down event to put the Santa Barbara area on the map in the competitive powerlifting world.

It was his first-ever powerlifting meet he attended, and he walked away with a state record.

Narva trains at House of Brutal in Santa Barbara, which is owned by Ezekiel “Zeke” Sarabia.
