San Marcos improved to 14-0 on the season with a 5-0 Channel League beach volleyball win over Buena on Thursday. The Royals are 7-0 in league play.

The winning teams were Josie Gamberdella/Cora Loomer, Evyn Miller/Elena Thomas, Caylin Cooney/Paige Hoadley, Katie Kracke/Sam Fallon and Isla McClintock/Reese Paskin.

“We kept the focus on our side of the net, minimizing errors,” said coach Teslin LeMaster. “Buena is a tough matchup and they made us work for every point. The girls stayed strong throughout all of the matches and have continued their undefeated streak.”

San Marcos, the No. 4-ranked team in CIF-SS Division 1, will test itself on Friday against top-ranked Mira Costa and No. 3 Redondo Union in Manhattan Beach.

Laguna Blanca 5, Thacher 0

Laguna Blanca swept Thacher and improved to 7-0 in Tri-Valley League play.

The No. 5 team of Danica Damiani/Lily Rice clinched the shutout with a three-set win over Thacher’s No. 1 duo. (The Toads didn’t field full squad). After dropping the first set, Damiani/Rice overcame an 18-17 deficit in the second set and pulled out a 15-13 win in the third.

“I’m very proud of the work that these girls have put in,” said coach Ethan Hill. “Watching them play, you immediately notice how composed they play, making explosive, and more importantly confident moves to the ball. Super impressive, looking forward to where this mentality can continue to take them this season.”
