Laguna Blanca boys volleyball dropped a back-and-forth battle with West Valley in five sets in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. 8 playoffs on Thursday in Santa Barbara.

The Owls earned wins in the second and third sets of the night but couldn’t pull out the win, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16, 23-25, 13-15.

“We had our chances tonight,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jason Donnelly said. “Unfortunately, we made a few too many unforced errors to pull it out.

“Volleyball is such a big momentum game, and there were a lot of shifts throughout the match. They played just a little bit cleaner than us in the end of the fourth and fifth (sets).”

Baylor Wilson ran the Owls’ offense and ended the night with 45 assists, seven digs and six kills. Soren Alldredge made his impact felt as well with 21 kills, five aces and four blocks, while Michael Couvillion added six kills.

“I am really proud of the development of this team,” Donnelly said. “We got better each time we stepped on the court and have a lot to build on.”
