Laguna Blanca football fell in its season opener to Orcutt Academy on Saturday by a score of 38-8.
Orcutt Academy got out to a hot start, rattling off 30 unanswered points to begin the game and pull away from the Owls early.
Laguna Blanca’s lone scoring drive was headlined by a 35-yard run from Luke Popovich before he punched in the touchdown from 1 yard out. He also converted the two-point conversion.
“I’m proud of the guys for fighting for four quarters; they never gave up and have a fight within them,” Laguna Blanca head coach Matthew Escobar said. “For a team of 16 players, with mostly underclassmen, I’m extremely pleased with the effort they gave and the competitive edge they continued to bring.
“We’re looking forward to seeing this group progress week by week throughout September.”
