Laguna Blanca 8-man football dropped an overtime thriller with Malibu by a score of 43-42 on Friday.

“Our young team is growing week by week. Tonight I thought they grew a lot as young men,” Owls head coach Matt Escobar said. “They all dug deep and fought to the very last play. As a group of sophomores and freshmen, we’re very proud of the work they’ve put in and how far they’ve come this season.

“This type of close heartbreak will give this group motivation to keep striving for what they’ve already built so far. Everyone played great, and most importantly, as one team & one heartbeat.”

After the Laguna Blanca offense was firing throughout the game, the Owls put together a strong 65-yard drive with 90 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Laguna Blanca then scored on its opening possession of overtime, but came up short on the two-point conversion attempt.

Malibu answered back by scoring a touchdown of its own and sneaking in the extra point to secure the 43-42 win.

The Owls will host Villanova Prep next Saturday at 1 p.m.
