Laguna Blanca girls volleyball fell just short of a reverse sweep with a five-set loss to Capistrano Valley Christian on Friday in Santa Barbara.

The Owls bounced back after dropping the first two sets but couldn’t complete the comeback, 25-27, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 12-15.

“We played at a really high level tonight and couldn’t be any happier with our performance even in the loss,” Laguna Blanca head coach Tanner Stevens said. “Our serve receive once again looked solid and our offense was much improved from match one.

Lauren Kenny recorded a double-double for the Owls with 16 kills and 10 digs, while Emma Bouvat-Merlin scooped up 18 digs and served up six aces. Lolayna Redmond also had a solid night with 42 assists, six kills and four aces.

“It’s fun to challenge ourselves early in the year and get a five-set match in against a quality opponent to get ready for league play next week,” Stevens said.

Laguna Blanca will compete in the Cardinal Classic on Saturday in the Thunderdome at UCSB.
