Laguna Blanca girls volleyball had its season come to a close with a five-set marathon loss to Sacred Heart in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. 7 playoffs on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.

The Owls came close to a comeback but fell just short to the Comets, 25-21, 23-25, 27-29, 25-23, 11-15.

“We battled till the bitter end tonight,” Laguna Blanca head coach Tanner Stevens said. “It was back and forth the entire match but I couldn’t be more proud that we didn’t fold when we easily could have.”

The Owl trio of Lauren Kenny, Maritt Blabey and Greta Alldredge capped off their seasons on a high note. Kenny tallied 13 kills and 18 digs, while Blabey also recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 15 digs. Alldredge hammered a team-high 15 kills.

“There were so many highlights from this season and we grew up so much in each match. It was a joy to watch the growth from August until now,” Stevens said.

Laguna Blanca ends the season with an overall record of 18-11. Sacred Heart will host Tustin in the Quarterfinals next Wednesday.
