Laguna Blanca 28, Amino Robinson 22

Senior quarterback Spencer Hlavaty led the Laguna Blanca 8-man football team to its second win in as many games on Friday against Amino Robinson.

Early in the first quarter, Hlavaty found junior wide receiver Sam Narva for a 20-yard touchdown to go up 8-0 after a successful two-point conversion.

The defense shined in the first half, led by senior linebacker Ganden Walker, who had an interception and helped keep Amino Robinson to just eight points in the half.

Senior wide receiver Gabe Lea stood out in the second half with a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a pick-six. Junior Sam Narva also had an interception in the second half.

Hlavaty put the nail in the coffin in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to go up 28-16.

Senior linebacker James Couvillion led the way with 10 tackles while playing every snap. Meanwhile, junior defensive end Carson Stewart had an impressive four-sack performance and junior safety Mason Siegel added in nine tackles and a pair of pass defenses.

“I’m happy with our guys rising to the challenge of a long trip on a short week,” Laguna Blanca coach Matthew Escobar said. “We had low numbers this week with 15 players heading into the game but it didn’t phase the team, they played hard and stuck together through all four quarters.

“[It was] another great team performance.”

The Owls (2-0) will take on Windward High for their next matchup on Sept. 15.

Girls Volleyball

Laguna Blanca 3, Coast Union 0

The Owls dominated in a three-set sweep on Friday, winning 25-18, 25-17, 25-13.

Sophie Otte led the Laguna Blanca offense with eight kills while Paloma Lujan chipped in 10 digs.

As a team, the Owls accumulated 11 aces throughout the match.

“It was great to get a non-league win on the road, especially after a really tough week of opponents,” Laguna Blanca coach Rae Gulland said.

The Owls will take a week off and will resume play against La Reina on Sept. 12.
