Laguna Blanca School will host its eighth annual TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 4125 Paloma Drive, Santa Barbara.
Organized entirely by students, the event will feature speakers from athletics, mental health, climate resilience, public service, and the arts, focusing on the theme Retrospect.
“It’s not every day that a group of teenagers take on the full responsibility of producing a TEDx event from start to finish. But at Laguna, it happens every year,” said Tara Broucqsault, director of communications.
The school’s TEDx program places students at the center of every aspect of the experience, from shaping the theme and curating speakers to designing the set, managing marketing and publicity, and securing event sponsorships, Broucqsault said.
Their work comes alive with the program at Merovick Gymnasium, which is transformed into a dynamic, daylong TEDx experience for the community, she said.
The theme of Retrospect captures the paradox of looking back in order to move forward, the school said.
“Retrospect encourages us to reflect on our stories, histories, and past experiences, as we uncover the wisdom that shapes future possibilities,” organizers said. “It is through remembrance that we dream, and through reflection that we progress.
“This year’s theme invites our speakers, guests, and community to look back on past decisions, excel forward, and live in the moment.”
The event is open to the community. Tickets are available here.
