The duo will be honored at next Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon, as there was no luncheon this week due to Labor Day.

Yanez was a central piece to the Owls’ offensive success last week, serving as the team’s leading receiver in a 48-14 rout of Cuyama Valley to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The wideout hauled in five catches for 185 yards and a whopping five touchdowns. He also brought in three two-point conversions to put the cherry on top of his standout performance.

Bazylewicz also served as the go-to target for the Royals last week, beginning with a receiving touchdown and a punt return score in a win over Channel Islands before taking six catches for 103 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Santa Barbara.

The freshman followed that up with big days against two highly-ranked opponents over the weekend. She caught six balls for 127 yards and a touchdown over Bonita, and snagged seven receptions for 57 yards to go along with a punt return touchdown against Beckman.

The boys honorable mentions were Everett Rabb-Preston (SB Football), Luke Popovich (Laguna Football), Hayden Feleay (SM Football), Isaac Murillo (SM Football), Sam Lambiotte (Cate Football) and August Singer (SM Cross Country).

The girls honorable mentions were Brooklyn Hedricks (DP Flag Football), Lola Heckman (SB Volleyball), Lauren Kenny (Laguna Volleyball) and Sydney Burgoyne (SB Cross Country).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
