Laguna Blanca’s three singles players, Caroline Kenny, Danica Damiani and Junling Wang, each won all three of their sets to lead the Owls to a 16-2 decision over Orcutt Academy.

Laguna Blanca’s top doubles team, Katherine Ball and Grace Trautwein, also won their three matches, dropping only one game. The doubles team of Nikki Mielcarek and Molly Morouse won two sets, and fought back on every point from a 0-5 deficit make the third set close at 4-6.

The doubles team of Alexandra Siegel and Natalie Schweitzer won their first set, then Siegel needed to leave in place of sub Evie Comis, a junior varsity player who was there to support her teammates.

“Even though she was a little bit nervous, she didn’t hesitate to step up and perform for her team,” new Owls coach Santiago Segovia said. “With the unconditional support and guidance of her doubles partner, Natalie Schweitzer, Evie was able to experience what it is like to represent Laguna Blanca at a varsity level.”

“It was very inspiring for me, during my first match as Laguna Blanca’s head coach, to see how all the players of this team supported each other,” Segovia said. “I am looking forward for our upcoming matches, and I can’t wait to see how each player in the team develops during this season.”
