The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department invites the community to celebrate the spirit of the Old West at Day of the Cowboy, a family-friendly event honoring cowboy and ranch life in the California chaparral setting at Los Flores Ranch Park.

The event will be 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at the Los Flores Ranch Park Event Area, 6245 Dominion Road. Signs will direct attendees to the designated parking lot.

Old West at Day of the Cowboy will feature western-themed activities including hands-on crafts, games, and face painting. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet, pet, brush, and take photos with a variety of horses.

A special appearance by Smokey Bear, courtesy of the U.S. Forest Service, is also scheduled.

A highlight of the event will be a performance and presentation by Escaramuza-Charras, an all-female equestrian group of riders, performing traditional routines while riding sidesaddle and in elaborate Adelita dresses.

Los Flores Ranch Park is an open space park with sprawling landscapes, and multi-use trails. Suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, the park is open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. with last entry at 6 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.
