Santa Barbara High was stung by the 3-ball on Saturday in a 66-63 loss to Los Alamitos at the Corona del Mar boys basketball tournament.
The Dons took a two-point lead with 40 seconds remaining, then the Griffins canned a trey to take a one-point lead with 30 seconds left. After the Dons missed, they had to foul and Los Alamitos made both FTs to go up by three. The Dons had two shots to tie but couldn’t convert either.
Bryce Warrecker led the Dons with his fourth straight double-double, pouring in 29 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Stephen Davis scored 11 and Erik Strandberg had 10.
“The scouting report was that they weren’t a great 3-poin shooting team,” said SBHS coach Corey Adam. “While that may be true, it did not hold fast today. They hit seven 3’s in the first half (10 for the game) to go up five at the break. We cooled them off in the third and outscored them by seven to take a two-point lead going into the fourth.
“We are definately making strides in the right direction. We have a week to regroup before taking on Oak Park on the Saturday, Dec. 21st.”
