St. Joseph scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Dos Pueblos, 3-2, in a non-league softball game on Wednesday at Dale Okinaka Field.
With the Chargers one out away from a win, St. Joseph had two runners on base. An errant throw pulled the first baseman off the bag and an error on the next play allowed the Knights to score two runs and take the lead.
Taylor Mediano retired the Chargers in the seventh to end the game. She finished the game with 13 strikeouts.
“Obviously losing in the last inning like that is disappointing,” said coach Mike Gerken. “It really was a great game, we just need to learn how to finish. We did a lot of good things today.”
Dos Pueblos starter Georgia Wilson didn’t allow an earned run in seven innings.
“She and catcher Riley Monroe are really getting it done. We just have help her out a bit more,” said Gerken.
DP’s Bello Nuno hit a home run off Mediano with two out in the third for a 1-0 lead.
St. Joseph tied the score in the sixth on a walk, single and error.
The Chargers (0-2) got the lead back in the bottom of the inning, as Nuno tripled to left and Mia Reveles executed a perfect bunt for a base hit and a RBI.
