Dos Pueblos baseball opened its season and the Easton Tournament with a 5-1 victory over Hart High on Wednesday at Scott O’Leary Field in Goleta.
Nick Salcido got the Opening Day nod for the Chargers and didn’t disappoint, firing five shutout innings and striking out four along the way to earn the win.
The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Dos Pueblos mounted a game-altering two-out rally.
The Chargers loaded the bases before Marcus Carbajal and Salcido were walked and hit by a pitch, respectively, to plate a pair of runs.
Spencer Holtz then came through with the biggest swing of the day, roping a two-run single to double the lead to 4-0.
After Hart responded with one run in the top of the sixth, Jameson Barth got that run right back with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom half to bring the game to its final score of 5-1.
Liam Shea and Max Cruse each pitched an inning in relief of Salcido to finish off the victory.
