The Santa Maria Utilities Department will present a Vermicomposting Workshop for beginners, 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 2 at Elwin Mussell Senior Center, 510 E. Park Ave., Santa Maria.

Attendees will learn about composting with worms and how it helps divert food waste from the landfill while enriching the soil with healthy nutrients. Participants will build worm bins and learn the step-by-step process of building and maintaining vermicompost.

Worm bins, worms, compost, and a worm guide are included with the workshop registration. No previous experience is necessary.

Registration is open until April 26 at bit.ly/VermiRegistration (Activity #27802). The event is open to Santa Maria residents ages 5 years and older; families welcome.
