Lompoc Parks and Recreation is again offering training that will enable participants to become American Red Cross-certified lifeguards.

Through classroom activities, online e-learning, and hands-on practice, participants in Lompoc Aquatic Center’s Lifeguard Training Course will learn the skills needed to work as a lifeguard either as a part-time job or as a professional lifeguard.

The Aquatic Center’s comprehensive and intensive lifeguard-training course covers accident prevention, lifeguarding techniques, emergency systems, water-rescue skills, Basic Life Support (CPR/AED), and first aid.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants, ages 15 and older, receive American Red Cross certification in lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid.

Training will ve at the Lompoc Aquatic Center, 207 West College Ave. Dates/times: pre-course, 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 28; instruction, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 29, Sunday, April 30, and Sunday, May 7.

Course fee is $200 is but it will be refunded for Lompoc Valley residents/participants who apply to become a lifeguard at the Lompoc Aquatic Center and are hired within 30 days of successfully completing the course.

Deadline to register is Monday, April 24. Since the class is presented in a blended-learning format, a valid email address is required at registration.

Participants will receive an email with information on how to access the online component of the course.
