The Natural History Museum of Santa Maria, with guest speakers from the California Native Plant Society, will offer step-by-step instructions on how to remove a lawn and replace it with a native garden.
The transformation instructions from a water-thirsty lawn into a low-maintenance landscape that requires minimal water, pesticides and fertilizers will be 3-4 p.m. Saturday, June 21 in the Santa Maria Public Library’s Shepard Hall, 421 S. McClelland St.
Topics covered will be Why Lawns, Why Native Plants, native garden design considerations, recommended California native plants, and additional resources.
The talk will offer information on the city of Santa Maria Smart Landscape Rebate Program, as well as mention of other local lawn removal incentives.
There will be a Q&A period at the end. The talk is free to all and no reservation is required.
