The San Marcos boys missed qualifying as a team, but No. 1 player Leo Metzger advanced out of the CIF/SCGA Qualifier on Thursday at River Ridge Golf Course’s Vineyard Course in Oxnard.

San Marcos finished out of the top four spots in the 14-team competition.
“We weren’t able to keep the magic from Monday alive today,” said coach Jeff Ashton, referring to winning the CIF-SS Division 2 title. “We are done for the season competing as a team. I am proud of the boys and happy that their hard work paid off to win CIF on Monday.”
Metzger extended his final high school season. The UC Davis signee shot a 1-under par 71 to qualify for the SCGA So Cal Regional Individual Tournament next Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. Players from the CIF’s Central, Los Angeles, Southern and San Diego sections will be competing for spots in the CIF State Championships, May 31 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
