In a highly competitive match where five golfers shot in the 70s, Leo Metzger’s 1-under par 70 led San Marcos to a 397-417 non-league win over Dos Pueblos on Monday at Glen Annie Golf Club.

“Leo recovered from a double bogey on the opening hole to shoot a 1 under 70 today, carding four birdies,” said San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton.

Metzger beat DP’s Michael Gentry by one stroke. San Marcos’ Shams Jahangir-Arshad was three back at 73 and Jeffrey Forster six shots behind the leader at  76.  Ruben Mendoza also fired a 76 for the Chargers.

“I thought all of the guys played really well, and we have been talking about a team goal of shooting under 400. So the players were excited to have done that,” said Ashton.

Gentry had an impressive drive on 13,  hitting from tee to green, which is 322 yards.

Andrew Gentry made a 30-foot putt to save par on 18 and shot his lowest score. Connor Schroder also shot a personal best.

San Marcos is 2-0 while DP is 1-2.
