The San Marcos attack was on fire in the first half against Ventura, erupting for five goals in a 6-0 Channel League boys soccer victory.
Senior Leonel Olivo recorded a hat trick in the Royals’ second league win.
Senior Tully Knoles opened the scoring early in the first half as he finished a through ball from senior Leo Hernandez.
Olivo followed with his first goal of the evening and scored again on a nice piece of skill. He chested the ball before blasting a volley rippled the inside netting from outside the 18 yard box.
Knoles made it 4-0, collecting a 40-yard ball from Justin Hess and finishing with his head.
Senior Favian Rosales received a great ball from junior Stevie Bradley and headed onto the post and then scored his own rebound for the fifth goal.
Olivo scored his third in the second half from a free kick.
“We finished some great chances tonight” said coach Paul McLean. “Tully and Leonel were simply fantastic. Our whole team worked hard to maintain possession of the ball and win it back when we lost it. Ventura has a strong team and they were getting better and better throughout the match.”
The Royals’ defense maintained the shutout. Hess, Bradley and goalkeepers Freddy Gonzalez and Arturo Alegria led the defensive performance.
The Royals play Dos Pueblos on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
