Les Rose and The Valley Jazz Collective will perform Jazz Explorations — Compositions of the Masters of Jazz Piano, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley in Los Olivos.
The evening will feature compositions by jazz pianists Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans and Bud Powell. After the concert, the audience is invited to enjoy wine and cheese (and soft drinks) at a reception with the artists in Stacy Hall.
Local jazz artists and educators Les Rose, saxophone; Woody Demarco, piano; Pablo Perez, bass; and Rex Harte, drums, make up The Valley Jazz Collective. Sharing the history and stories of this revered American art form, the collective musicians bring artistry and flare to their performances.
Tickets will be on sale at the door (cash and checks accepted); the price includes the post-concert reception. Cost: $15 general admission, free admission for students.
Rose, an artist and educator, led the music program at Dos Pueblos High School from 2001-16. He inspired numerous young musicians as he continued pursuing his own work as a jazz artist and composer. His work includes Broadway shows, Hollywood soundtracks, and two of his own albums, “Jump Swing Boogie” and “Jazz Takes.”
Rose currently directs the jazz club at Santa Ynez High School.
