Santa Barbara County has a higher rate of renters (versus homeowners) compared with the U.S. average. The city of Santa Barbara has the largest ratio of renters, at 59% of residents.

The county ranks fourth in the state for having the most severe cost burdens for renters.

The median rent in the county was $3,300 a month last year — it’s higher for the South Coast and lower for North County communities.

Noozhawk is planning a series of stories looking at housing issues, and we want your help looking at the state of rentals.

Property owners are required to keep rentals habitable and do a certain level of maintenance, while tenants are responsible for damage beyond regular wear and tear.

We want to hear about the condition of your rental, and how you get repairs done.
