Cate midfielder Lilly Riehl was unstoppable on Friday, pouring in 10 goals in the Rams’ 13-10 girls lacrosse win over San Marcos.

“We had two areas where Riehl gave us fits and those were the draw control in the center circle and then not stopping her when she drove to goal,” said San Marcos coach Paul Ramsey.  “At the end of the first half, we made a run to tie it but then she took over in the second half and carried them.”

The Royals had a four-goal surge to tie the score at 7-7. Bu Riehl opened the second half with her seventh goal to spark a three-goal run for the Rams.

Ramsey praised the play of freshmen Ellie Monson and Mia Martinez-Tomatis, who both played in three lacrosse games and two basketball games during the week for San Marcos.

“I hope those two take the weekend off,” cracked Ramsey.

Junior Sofia Martinez-Tomatis led San Marcos with a goal and two assists. Goalkeeper Valerie Velazquez, making her first start, had 13 saves.

Cate improved to 3-0 in the Channel League and has a big showdown with Dos Pueblos on Wednesday. San Marcos dropped to 2-2 in the Channel League and plays next at Nordhoff on May 7.
