In a return to form, Dos Pueblos’ Lily Mires had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds and the Chargers pulled away for their second consecutive Channel League win against Santa Barbara, 58-41 at Sovine Gym on Tuesday.

Mires has played the last three games with a hyper-extended knee, DP coach Phil Sherman said, and was very limited in movement in last week’s victory over the Dons.

“I am proud, not only of her performance tonight, but also her ability to act as if she is not hurt and tip it off to the opponent,” Sherman said.

Other key performances included Leila Chisholm, who scored all eight of her points in the third quarter, and Lia Papador who scored all 10 of hers in the fourth. The Chargers led by as much as 21 in the fourth quarter.

Elle Stone led Santa Barbara with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

“This is this is the way I envisioned this team playing early on, with multiple options offensively and defensively,” Sherman said. “With the emergence of Gianna Nichols as a threat it really opens up our options.”

Santa Barbara came out strong and opened up a 13-2 lead in the early going.

Then Mires scored five consecutive points, and sophomores Justine Katz and Nichols both scored consecutive three-point plays to tie the game at 13.

“For us it was a collective effort,” Sherman said. “We had seven people score and make important contributions at crucial times.”

Dos Pueblos improves to 3-1 in Channel League play and 13-3 overall.
