Chaucer’s Books will host Santa Barbara author Tania Israel for an in-store book talk and signing of her book “Facing The Fracture: How to Navigate the Challenges of Living in a Divided Nation,” 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.
“Facing the Fracture” addresses the provocative news, clashing politicians, and social fragmentation; and Americans’ struggle to navigate the challenges of living in a divided country.
Grounded in psychological research, the book offers readers strategies to reduce toxic input from media, manage polarizing thoughts and feelings, and engage effectively with others.
Israel is a professor of counseling psychology at UCSB and the award-winning author of “Beyond Your Bubble: How to Connect Across the Political Divide, Skills and Strategies for Conversations That Work” (APA, 2020).
She has shared her work on navigating political polarization with campuses, conferences, corporations, elected officials, and faith communities.
Israel has received honors from Congress, the California State Legislature, and the American Psychological Association.
Her TEDx talks, podcasts, and “The Flowchart That Will Resolve All Political Conflict in Our Country” can be found on her website, taniaisrael.com. She grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia.
