A local teen pickleball standout will be leading a training program for advanced-level junior players at the Grove Pickleball indoor facility in Goleta starting next week.
Santa Barbara’s Madalena Flores, who is considered one of the top junior players in the country, will run the eight-week Advanced Junior Pickleball Training Program beginning Oct. 12.
She recently won titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles at a Professional Pickleball Association event in Arizona to achieve a prestigious tournament Triple Crown.

Flores will be working with young players who already have a solid pickleball foundation. They will work on advanced shot development, point construction, court positioning, decision-making, competitive strategy and match play.
The sessions will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
“We’re especially excited to create a program that gives talented young players in our community a place to develop their game,” said Ted Guggenheim, co-owner of The Grove Pickleball. “Madalena is an exceptional young player, but what really makes her special for this program is how much she enjoys teaching. Young players get the opportunity to learn from someone who understands what it takes to compete at a high level and can relate to them as a fellow junior athlete.”
Guggenheim added that the program also reflects The Grove’s broader goal of helping develop the next generation of pickleball players in Santa Barbara as the sport continues its rapid growth among younger athletes.
