UCSB right-hander and Dos Pueblos alum Kellan Montgomery took the first steps to making his MLB dreams come true on Wednesday.
After going undrafted in the 2026 MLB Draft over the weekend, Montgomery agreed to an undrafted free agent contract with the Cleveland Guardians organization. He will likely begin his career in the lower ranks of the minor league system.
Montgomery turned in a stellar career as a Dos Pueblos Charger, resulting in him earning a spot on the Long Beach State baseball team.
He played three seasons with the Dirtbags, including an All-Big West Honorable Mention in his junior year and a pair of Big West Academic All-Conference honors.
The local product then returned home for his senior season and thrived, earning the Sunday starter spot in the rotation and turning in the best campaign of his college career.
He was named to the All-Big West Second Team after pitching to a 4.00 ERA and striking out 69 batters in 81 innings of work. His best outing came against UC San Diego on April 12, allowing one run and striking out a career-high nine in eight innings.
Montgomery’s signing made it seven UCSB Gauchos to sign a professional contract this summer after six were selected in the first 14 rounds of the MLB Draft, including No. 4 overall pick Jackson Flora.
