The Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons hosted the annual Santa Barbara City Championships over the past two weekends at the Municipal Tennis Courts, Santa Barbara High School, Westmont College and the Knowlwood Tennis Club.

Local players stood out across both weekends, as 10 of the 12 finalists reside in the Santa Barbara area.

There were a total of 98 players from California in the tournament competing for a total purse of $2,000. The four divisions were Women’s and Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Santa Barbara’s Garrett Patton took down Carlos Encinas of Ojai to capture the Men’s Singles title.

On the women’s side, San Marcos High School’s Mina Yazadzhiev defeated Katarina Drinchich in the singles championship.

Yazadzhiev got some help from a family member to earn her second championship of the tournament in Mixed Doubles, where Mina and Vasyl Yasadzhiev came out on top against Teagan McPeters and Chris Pope.

The Men’s Doubles championship was full of local talent, as was the Mixed Doubles title matchup. For the men, Trevor Thorpe and Alberto Hernandez picked up the win over Dylan Kauffmann and Stephen Guenard.
