With head-high swell predictions and clear weather ahead, the 2024 Channel Islands Surfboards Rincon Classic presented by Merrick Lager is on for this weekend.

Competition will begin on Saturday at 6:40 a.m. at the world-famous surf spot on the boundary line of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

This year’s classic, the 42nd annual, will feature 12 divisions from 12-under Gremlins to Grand Master and Super Legends.

It also generated the largest local interest in the history of the Rincon Classic with a record level of entries, as all divisions were full by the end of the day on the first day of registration. In total, 221 surfers will be competing across the 12 divisions.

Returning champions from a year ago include Dominic Arce (Boys U14), Aiden Albada (Juniors U17), Jak Ziets (Juniors U17), Javi Moreno (Masters), Britt Merrick (Grand Masters), Maddie Malmsten (Open Womens), Jesse Engel (Wahines), Simone Reddingious (Lady Legends) and Parker Coffin (Rincon Brewery Pro).

Saturday’s competition will be the first of the preliminary rounds, beginning at 6:40 a.m. with the Men’s six-round one heats and concluding at 4:20 p.m. with the Legends three first-round heats.

Then, the preliminary rounds will wrap up with rounds one and two on Sunday from 6:40 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

From there, the rest of Sunday will be the pro and finals for each of the divisions.
