Local teams finished as runners-up in the first California Beach Volleyball Association Tournament of the spring-summer season at the East Beach courts.
In the Santa Barbara Men’s B Division event, the team of Jeff Sakaida and Brent Rasmussen defeated local high school volleyball players Matthew Suh and Theo Mack in the final. Suh plays at Santa Barbara High and Mack plays at Cate School.
The local father-son team of David Rottman and Alex Rottman took third place along with Matt Clark and Christian Clark.
In the Santa Barbara Women’s A tournament final, Alana Embry and Ella Connor knocked off former San Marcos High teammates Andi O’Donnell and Anastasia Kunz.
Santa Barbara High alum Sarah Scarminach and partner Diane Seely finished third along with the team of Claire O’Dell and Jessica Bensley.
The next CBVA event at East Beach is a Men’s A and Women’s A on Saturday, June 1.
That will be followed by the Michelob Men’s and Women’s Opens on June 29 and a Men’s AA and Women’s A on July 20.
A series of CBVA Junior Division tournaments are slated for six consecutive Tuesdays, starting July 9. The age divisions are 18, 16, 14 and 12-under.
