A Lompoc man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a shooting in Buellton Friday night.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies responded to Valley Station Drive for a report of a disturbance.
When deputies arrived, they learned that the suspect allegedly yelled obscenities at the victim, drew a firearm from his waistband and fired several rounds toward the victim before driving away at a high speed in a black Ford F150, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said Tuesday.
The suspect and the victim are familiar to one another, and no one was struck by any of the rounds fired into the occupied residence, Zick said.
While deputies remained at the scene investigating the shooting, a be-on-the-lookout alert was broadcast to law enforcement officers in the area.
At approximately 9:10 p.m., California Highway Patrol located the suspect in his vehicle in the parking lot on the 1700 block of East Ocean Avenue in Lompoc, Zick said.
Deputies responded and eventually arrested Sergio Martin Lopez Hernandez, 35, of Lompoc.
Inside his vehicle, deputies discovered a loaded firearm with the serial number filed off, Zick said.
Lopez Hernandez was booked at the Northern Branch Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, altering identifying marks on a firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, driving under the influence and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
He remained in jail on Tuesday afternoon with bail at $1 million.
