A Lompoc man has been named as the driver who was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash that ended with the Dodge Charger in the parking lot of a Santa Maria restaurant last weekend.
Ephrem Christopher Jones, 38, was fatally injured in the crash last Saturday night, according to Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau.
At 9:10 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers, along with personnel from the Santa Mara Police and Fire departments, responded to the incident at the IHOP restaurant, 202 Nicholson Ave.
The northbound vehicle veered off Highway 101 at a high speed, overturned, and hit a parked truck in the IHOP lot.
The lot sits across Nicholson Avenue from the offramp, which has a sharp right-hand curve for the transition from the highway and onto city streets.
The Charger landed upside down on the parked truck, according to law enforcement officers at the scene.
The Main Street offramp was partially closed for approximately three hours due to the crash investigation Saturday night, with drivers directed to use a detour.
CHP officers investigated the crash since the incident began on the freeway.
