An investigation was underway after Lompoc police officers discharged their firearms at a vehicle accelerating toward them, but no one was hit by the gunfire.

Officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving a fight and individuals who forced their way into a residence during a party, Sgt. Scott Morgan said Sunday morning.

Police did not say where or when the incident occurred.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a vehicle associated with the disturbance.

“When officers approached, the vehicle accelerated toward them. Officers discharged their firearms at the vehicle,” Morgan said.

The vehicle, which had been reported as stolen, subsequently collided with a police patrol vehicle and other parked vehicles, Morgan added.

“No individuals were struck by gunfire, and no associated injuries were reported,” Morgan added.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, police said.

“The Lompoc Police Department is following established procedures for investigating officer involved shootings,” Morgan said.

“This is an active investigation; no further information will be released at this time,” Morgan said.

Police did not say Sunday if anyone, including the driver of the vehicle that accelerated toward officers, had been arrested.
