A Lompoc man’s arraignment hearing in Santa Barbara County Superior Court on attempted murder and other charges has been delayed until Tuesday.
Rafael Vivanco Jr., 20, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm in connection with late-night shootings on Sept. 11.
At about 9:30 p.m., personnel from the Lompoc Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 500 block of North M Street, police Sgt. Vincent Magallon said.
Officers located a 35-year-old man with a single gunshot wound, and they provided first aid until other emergency services arrived, Magallon added.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
A second man, 31 years old, also was struck by gunfire and arrived at Lompoc Valley Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury, according to police.
Officers located Vivanco a few blocks from the shooting scene and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Police said Vivanco had a firearm in his possession when he was arrested.
Additionally, he faces special allegations for street terrorism, personal use of a firearm and intentional use of a firearm causing injury.
He also has a prior strike under the state’s “three strikes” sentencing law. In 2019, Vivanco pleaded no contest to assault with a firearm.
The criminal complaint for the latest case alleged that Vivanco committed the crimes for the benefit of the Southside F Street Gang.
The arraignment hearing, once planned for this week, has been rescheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Santa Maria.
