Lompoc scored four runs in the seventh inning and beat Santa Ynez, 5-4, in a Channel League baseball game on Friday.

It was the third straight league loss for the Pirates, who fell to 3-4 in league and 9-5 overall. Lompoc is also 3-4 in league.

“I was very proud of our kids competing today,” said Santa Ynez coach Warren Dickey. “But to Lompoc’s credit, they never gave up. We need to learn how to close the game out. We are learning some hard lessons, and I believe we will be better in the game to come.”

Owen Hunt and Mikey Gills each went 2 for 4.

Jackson Cloud scattered four hits, gave up two runs and struck out 10 in six-plus innings.
