San Marcos flag football used a dominant first half to roll to a 48-8 rout of crosstown rival Santa Barbara High on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.

The Royals were on point from the opening whistle, racing out to a 34-0 lead by the halftime break

Quarterback Victoria Aldana was efficient under center, finding 10 different receivers throughout the night and passing for over 200 yards.

The San Marcos scoring came from the receiving trio of Rio Chesluk, Peyton Sperling and Janelle Capuno.

Meanwhile, Piper Kittle came away with two interceptions on the defensive end while Autumn Johnson and Maya Llewellyn connected on a touchdown pass.

The Dons’ lone score of the night came on a 59-yard touchdown catch and run from Laila Hernandez to Elina Stump in the second half. Stump made several defenders miss on her way to the score.

The long touchdown, coupled with a two-point conversion from Hernandez to Shea Gannon, brought the game to its final score of 48-8.

“I have to give credit where credit is due. That’s a very good football team,” Santa Barbara High head coach Travis Mañach said. “I asked my girls at halftime to play the second half with some heart and pride, and that’s exactly what they did. I really appreciate that about this group.”

Sofia Lopez and Aurelia Agredano led Santa Barbara High with seven flag pulls apiece, while Rocio Vejar Montor also put together a strong game on the defensive end.

San Marcos is now 20-3 overall and 11-1 in Channel League play, while the Dons are 6-13 and 2-10 against league opponents.

Dos Pueblos 48, Buena 0

The Chargers celebrated Senior Night with a rout of the Bulldogs on Tuesday in Goleta.

Kacey Hurley threw for four touchdowns in the win, connecting with Esme Mazurkiewicz twice aas well as Ruby Streatfeild and Jane Gibson.

Lucia Riley rushed for a score, while Ava Taji tossed a touchdown pass to Juliana Brunner.

Defensively, Brooklyn Hedricks came away with a pick-six and Hanna Kaminsky hauled in an interception. Meanwhile, Zenia Potter tallied a sack, Aleyah Llamas and Carly Letendre tallied multiple tackles and Sterling Streatfeild had several pass breakups.
