The Friends of Los Alamos Cemetery is inviting the community to attend its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 26 at Los Alamos Cemetery, 4777 Drum Canyon Road.
The program will feature a welcome by Mike Terry, board president of Friends of Los Alamos Cemetery, followed by an invocation from Jim Gravitt of Los Alamos Presbyterian Church.
Los Alamos Valley historian Mike Ferris will provide historical remarks, and the Orcutt Academy High School Choir will perform the national anthem.
The Midcoast Veterans Alliance Honor Guard, led by retired Sgt. Mike Rojas, will conduct a formal flag ceremony and gun salute.
Friends of Los Alamos Cemetery board members will read the names of those being honored, followed by Gravitt’s benediction.
The ceremony will conclude with a release of doves and Larry Barbro’s performance of
“America the Beautiful.”
This annual tribute honors those U.S. military personnel who died while in service to our country.
In addition to the Memorial Day commemoration, a Día de los Muertos Mass is scheduled for Nov. 2.
The nonprofit Friends of Los Alamos Cemetery is dedicated to improving and maintaining the 149-year-old cemetery, including regular landscaping and maintenance of the grounds, hosting commemorative events, and fostering community engagement through educational initiatives about local history.
In addition to Terry, board members are secretary Eric Anches, treasurer Mary Anne Christensen and directors Gabriel Bustamante, Mary Caldera and Greg Saunders.
