The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table has recognized the new school year’s first athletes of the week for area high schools.
Week Ending Aug. 31
- Zeke Johnson, Orcutt Academy football — Johnson powered Orcutt Academy with 180 rushing yards and five touchdowns in the Spartans’ 38-8 win over Laguna Blanca.
- Presley Pinole, Santa Ynez Valley Union High School girls flag football — Pinole took a lateral from Campbell McClurg and raced 25 yards for the game’s only score on a hook-and-ladder play, lifting the Pirates to a 6-0 win at Paso Robles. The victory was the first in program history for the new Santa Ynez girls flag football team.
Week Ending Sept. 7
- Lucy Halbeisen, Cabrillo High School girls water polo — Halbeisen starred at the Pioneer Valley Tournament, scoring 11 goals and adding nine steals for Cabrillo as the Conquistadores went 3-1.
- Noah Kinard, Lompoc High School football: Kinard turned in a monster performance for Lompoc with 319 rushing yards, three touchdowns and an 81-yard kickoff return score in a 32-21 road win at Righetti. He also broke loose for a 99-yard touchdown run.
