Luke Sheffey played the role of facilitator for the San Marcos boys soccer team in a 3-0 win at Ventura on Thursday night to remain undefeated in the Channel League.
Sheffey launched crosses into the box that were finished by sophomore Jose Ramirez and Favi Rosales for a 2-0 lead.
Leonel Olivo added the third goal on a smash from 25 yards that snuck in at the near post.
“Luke Sheffey created some outstanding crosses that Jose and Favi finished cleanly, and John Najera did a great job in the middle of the field with strong distribution,” said San Marcos coach Paul McLean. “Leo Vico combined well and got forward from the left back position.
“Ventura’s midfield was solid and we had a hard time breaking them down initially. Our backline of Justin Hess and Stevie Bradley were excellent. Freddie Gonzalez made several keys stops when the game was tight. They kept us in the game.”
San Marcos improved to 10-0 in league and 11-1-2 overall.
