
Luz Elena Perea de Huerta passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on July 31, 2025 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her five children, grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that adored her.
She is survived by her children Gracie, Jose, Juan (Theresa), Albert and Javier (Raquel) and grandchildren.
Luz immigrated to Santa Barbara from Villa Guerrero, Jalisco Mexico, and was a long-time community member of Santa Barbara, spending several years on The Mesa and the last 45 years in Goleta.
The loves in life were God, her children and grandchildren Nathaniel, Benicio, Salma, Rubi Rose, Amaru and Joaquin that she often referred to as “hermosuras.”
The family thanks the many people that enriched her life the last couple of years, including her beloved caretakers Estela, Maria and Ana, her kind and generous neighborhood friends Kika, Enedina, Maria, Jazzmyn and Steven and Hailey and Michael.
Luz’s physical presence may no longer grace her family’s lives, but they know her spirit will forever uplift and inspire them.
A rosary will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at St. Mark’s University Catholic Parish on Picasso Road in Isla Vista. A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Aug. 8 at St. Mark’s University Catholic Parish followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests donations to her long-time parish, St. Mark’s University Catholic Parish on Picasso Road in Isla Vista.
