Major injuries were reported Wednesday afternoon in a rollover crash on Highway 101 at the western edge of Goleta, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash involving a pickup truck towing a small open trailer carrying a motorcycle occurred at about 3:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes just west of the Cathedral Oaks Road overcrossing and the freeway onramp.
The pickup came to rest on its roof on the right side of the highway near the entrance to the Rancho Embarcadero neighborhood, while the trailer ended up in the center median.
Witnesses told Noozhawk that the trailer began to sway wildly before disconnecting from the truck.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck suffered critical injuries, but was able to extricated himself from the vehicle, according to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
He was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but his name and details on his condition were not available.
The motorcycle ended up in the roadway next to the pickup.
Northbound traffic on the freeway was shut down for a time, with one lane reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
