The Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce, from Goleta to Carpinteria, is taking nominations for Carpinterian of the Year and Junior Carpinterian of the Year, who will be honored at the 64th Annual Carpinteria Community Awards Gala in April.
The event will be held 5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1 at Rincon Beach Club.
The Junior Carpinterian of the Year will receive a $10,000 scholarship this year, and two runners-up, will each receive a $3,000 scholarship. The scholarship amounts are significantly higher than in years past, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor.

“It is an honor to continue this legacy tradition in the Carpinteria community and to recognize the people who Carpinteria such a unique and special area, rich with history, goodwill, and meaningful contributions to its community,” said Kristen Miller, president/CEO of the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce.
The gala, held in the outdoor garden at Rincon Beach Club, will include dinner, dessert and beverages, along with a social hour and awards program.
The awards program will recognize three local high school seniors for their leadership abilities and contributions to the community, one will receive the Junior Carpinterian of the Year Award.
In addition, two Educators of the Year will be recognized by the Carpinteria Unified School District. Local organizations will also recognize community members for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the Carpinteria Valley Community.
The evening finale will reveal the Carpinterian of the Year award winner.
This year’s event will include a special recognition award to Dave Durflinger who has served the Carpinteria community for the last 24 years.
Durflinger has also served the community on the Board of Directors for the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce, Carpinteria Children’s Project, Rotary Club of Carpinteria, and served as volunteer coordinator for the Carpinteria AYSO Soccer.
Tickets to attend the Carpinteria Community Awards Gala are $150 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at SBSCChamber.com.
