A pedestrian suffered major injuries Sunday night when he was struck by a vehicle in Santa Maria, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
Emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. to the intersection of Broadway and El Camino Street, where they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle that was driving north on Broadway, said Lt. Paul Van Meel.
The man had been walking on the sidewalk before he attempted to cross Broadway, Van Meel said.
“The pedestrian is listed in critical condition and has yet to be identified,” he added.
The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, remained on the scene and was cooperative with investigating officers, Van Meel said, noting that it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
