A 29-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with a shooting in the southwestern area of Santa Maria.
At approximately 12:35 a.m., Santa Maria Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 1000 block of Black Road, Lt. Shalhoob said.
A witness reported that a fight had occurred at a residence in the area before a subject fired several rounds toward a group of people, Shalhoob added.
The shooter then fled the scene in a silver Honda Civic.
Officers located several spent shell casings and determined no one was struck by the gunfire.
After broadcasting suspect and vehicle description to responding units, officers located the vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, Shalhoob said.
The driver, identified as Erik Estrada, 29, of Santa Maria, was detained without incident.
A witness to the shooting positively identified Estrada who was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of assault with a firearm.
Estrada remained in the custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail on Sunday afternoon, with bail set at $50,000.
