San Marcos boys basketball will enter the 2026-27 season with a familiar face at the helm.

Max Kadlec, a 2020 graduate of San Marcos, has taken over as the head coach of the program on an interim basis heading into the year.

Kadlec has been a coach in the program in recent years, following his career as a player for the Royals and at Ventura College.

“We have high hopes for Max,” San Marcos athletic director Frann Wageneck said in an email to Noozhawk.

Kadlec will be joined on the staff by returning assistant coach Cade Roth and his father, Alan Kadlec, who has coached with the program previously and also played basketball at San Marcos.

The Royals will look to build off a 22-7 campaign last season that featured a second-place finish in the Channel League and a CIF-SS Division 2 playoff appearance.
