Former star UCSB guard Max Heidegger, who has been invited by the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks to their mini-camp later this month, will be among the counselors and speakers at next week’s Kids Camp 1 sponsored by the Gaucho men’s basketball team.

The camp will be held Monday through Friday at the UCSB Thunderdome. (For information or to register, go to ucsbgauchos.com/sports/m-baskbl/index).

Heidegger graduated from UCSB in 2020 after twice earning All-Big West Conference First Team honors. He averaged 18.3 points on 47% shooting — 37.5% from the three-point line — and 4.5 assists this year for EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Germany’s top professional league.

“He had an unbelievable year in Europe,” UCSB coach Joe Pasternack said. “He’s going to camp with the Mavericks and will be playing in the NBA Pro Summer League. I’m thinking he’ll be in the NBA next year, at least as a two-way player in the G League.”

Heidegger played for the Atlanta Hawks in last year’s NBA Pro Summer League, scoring 12 points in just 15 minutes in his debut against the Boston Celtics before signing with Oldenburg on July 9.

Current and past UCSB players, as well as its coaching staff, will take part in next week’s Gaucho Kids Camp, which is for boys and girls from grades 2 to 8. A second Kids Camp will be held Aug. 1-5. UCSB will also conduct its High School Team Camp on Aug. 24-26.
