Lois Trudeau Engelhardt, Lompoc Valley Medical Center’s doctor of speech-language pathology, will speak about communication disorders during a free lecture, 6 p.m. Aug. 23.
The free lectures are part of the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation’s community education program and are now being held at Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center, 1120 W. Ocean Ave., in conjunction with Lompoc’s Park and Recreation Division. Previously, the lectures took place at the hospital.
Engelhardt is a senior practitioner, clinical specialist, and mentor. She provides medical speech-language pathology services in the acute care-hospital setting, outpatient clinic and the Comprehensive Care Center skilled nursing facility.
Engelhardt provides clinical oversight of speech-language pathology services for the Rehabilitation Services Department.
In her presentation, Engelhardt will offer an educational overview of communication disorders in children and adults. The information presented is designed to improve understanding of individuals with communication difficulties, and support verbal and nonverbal, behavioral and social interactions among family, friends, and care providers.
For the next lecture, at 6 p.m. Sept. 20, Leslie Kelly, R.N., will address End of Life Care: The Enlightened Ending.
